Study from ‘Forbes Health’ names Columbus as one of the loudest cities in the country
While Forbes recently named Columbus as the 4th best city in the country for young professionals, a new study from Forbes Health included the Arch City in a less-desirable top 10.
In a story posted on June 27, Columbus was ranked ninth in a list of American cities whose residents face the greatest risk of hearing loss.

To conduct the study, Forbes Health gathered about the number of establishments or attractions in each city that can produce damaging levels of noise, which Forbes Health noted is above 85 decibels. These include:
- Restaurants and cafeterias
- Bars and nightclubs
- Movie theaters, including drive-in theaters
- Spectator sports events, including motor racing
- Concerts and performing arts venues
- Casinos, including casino-hotels
- Amusement parks, arcades and other recreation areas, including shooting ranges
- Transportation hubs, such as shipping harbors, train stations, bus depots, airports and warehouses
- Quarries and other mining sites
- Construction sites
- Manufacturing establishments
Three other Ohio cities cracked the list as well. Forbes Health named Cleveland the 11th noisiest city, with Toledo at 12 and Cincinnati at 19.
