UFO? Meteor? Falling satellite? Columbus residents share sightings, videos of unidentified object in the sky yesterday

In the early morning hours of April 11, multiple people in central Ohio witnessed what appeared to be an object falling from the sky at a high rate of speed. A Columbus-area resident even happened to capture the event on their home’s security camera.

In the video, an object appears in the upper left-hand corner of the frame at 5:29:17. It’s visible on the screen for less than 10 seconds, falling from the top of the frame before disappearing near the middle, all with a bright tail behind it.

You can watch the video here.

And the doorbell camera wasn’t the only witness to the event, either. A user on the Columbus subreddit posted about a sighting of their own, which was witnessed as they were driving to work on North Hamilton Road in New Albany early yesterday morning.

“Hard to tell the size, but it was large (at least from my perspective) and bright. Was not the right trajectory for a shooting star. Did not see or feel an impact of anything,” the post reads. Numerous other users shared similar sightings as well.

The American Meteor Society, which runs a public database of sighting reports, lists numerous “fireball” sighting from Ohio at 5:30 a.m. yesterday morning. You can access these reports here.

It’s currently unclear what the object was. According to a recent YahooNews  story, a Starlink satellite fell to Earth in February, and “a dozen or so more may be on their way down.”
