Discover a new era of dating: New local event aims to create authentic connections without the dating apps

DateColumbus, a new, in real life dating event designed for successful, creative, and ambitious professionals in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, is picking up speed in Columbus, but it’s far from the cheesy “speed dating” trope we’ve all seen in movies. Their first event at Agave & Rye was a huge success, with more than 90 Columbus singles gathering together in hopes of finding a genuine connection.

Mercedes McElley, Rachel Kerr, and Roula Labbad created DateColumbus on a girl’s night out when they were discussing their frustration and exhaustion from dating apps. “Our goal was to create a space to come together to connect in an authentic way and meet new humans that all share the same desire. It’s much easier to shoot your shot when you know the person is there for the same reason you are.” They know that showing up alone and meeting new people can be intimidating, but they were surprised at how much fun everyone was having at April’s event. Everyone seemed engaged, open, and naturally willing to facilitate conversations.

An anonymous review from the April 26th meetup mentioned that this was an inclusive event, the ratio of men to women was about 1:1, and that “this event allowed people to shine in real life.”

Their next event is on June 7th at Land Grant Brewery from 6-8:30. Tickets are $10 and can be bought here, and you can reach out with questions by DMing them on their Instagram handle, @datecolumbus.

If you decide to attend an event, and you don’t find your partner, the DateColumbus trio emphasizes that you shouldn’t feel discouraged. “Meeting new people in all aspects of relationships will allow for more human connection in your life, which could help facilitate meeting your human down the road!”
