After closure, Columbus’ only ‘Tool Library’ announces they’re reopening

We could all use some good news around here, right?

After months of not knowing if they’d reopen this spring or summer, a local nonprofit that provides home tools all at a low cost is officially going to open again.

Modcon Living’s “Tool Library,” which partnered with the City of Columbus, allows Columbus residents to rent hundreds of tools that would otherwise be too expensive to outright purchase. At the Tool Library, you can rent air compressors like you would a book with your low-cost membership, or a ⅜ drill, a lawnmower, vacuum cleaners, or pretty much any tool you could need for your home, for up to 21 days.

Although Columbus was worried that this incredible organization would all be over due to the budgeting and scheduling constraints that Tool Library disclosed back in March, there’s no need to worry anymore.

“Good news everyone, Modcon Living will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening of the Tool Library on Monday May 20, 2024, from 10am -4pm. We recognize that change is always difficult & we again apologize for any inconvenience our temporary closure has caused you,” they posted on their Facebook.

“As part of our Grand Re-Opening, we will be providing tours of the Tool Library, & yard sale of previously donated excess tools. For all of our current members, all currently active memberships will be extended by 90 days to adjust for our restructuring.”

They also changed their hours to be more convenient for those working on their homes. They’ll now be open from 9a-5p on Tuesdays & Fridays, 1p-7p Wednesdays & Thursdays, and 8:30a-11:30a on Saturdays.  For more information about the Tool Library and everything they have to offer, check out their website and Facebook.
