Columbus beats Nashville, Denver, & Boston in 2024 study of ‘Best State Capitals to Live In’

Often, state capitals are thriving places to live and visit, representing the state’s culture, and not just where they make the laws. State capitals often coincide with larger cities, but as we all know, just because a city is big doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a great place to live.

That’s not the case for Columbus, OH though. Columbus is not only the largest city in Ohio, but it’s also the 8th best capital city to live in out of all 50, according to analysts at WalletHub.

“In order to determine which state capitals make the best homes, WalletHub compared all 50 across 48 key indicators of affordability, economic well-being, and quality of life, education and health care. Our data set ranges from the cost of living to the quality of K–12 school systems to the crime rate,” said Wallethub.

Columbus also ranked the 13th best affordable capital city, the 18th best in economic well-being, the 27th in quality education and health, and the 10th in overall quality of life. All of those rankings placed us at the 8th spot total, beating cities like Denver, Nashville, and Boston. Austin, TX, continues to take the #1 ranking.
