Owner of Ohio fried chicken restaurant found guilty in tax fraud case

A federal jury has found the owner of an Ohio fried chicken restaurant owner guilty of tax fraud.

65 year old Richard Boolai, the owner and operator of several concepts, including Richie’s Chicken, which is located on the North Side of Cincinnati, was convicted on Sept. 16.

According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Ohio, Boolai did not pay payroll taxes to the IRS.

 2017 and 2018. Boolai did withhold federal taxes from the paychecks of his employees (he had between 22-34 employees during that time), but used those funds for personal purchases instead. 

He allegedly spent hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of these funds for personal purchases, and used business proceeds to spend over $1 million gambling.

Boolai has not yet been sentenced.
