55 year old local donut shop named the best in Ohio by national publication
National Donut Day is technically on June 7, but you over-achievers can start celebrating this weekend by grabbing a dozen from the state’s best donut shop, located right here in Columbus Ohio.
To create a list of the best donut shops in America, 24/7 Tempo, an online national publication, referred to articles and rankings from a variety of sources, including Eater, Food & Wine, Thrillist, Time Out, and Tasting Table, along with various local and regional sources.
And with all of that being said, none other than Columbus’ Buckeye Donuts is their choice of the shop that serves the absolute best donuts in all of Ohio. This local donut shop has been around since it first opened in 1969 by Greek Immigrants George Barouxis, Jim Barouxis, and George Sauter.

24/7 Tempo recommends ordering the Red Velvet with Cream Cheese frosting, although I’m a raspberry jelly-filled type of gal myself.
There are technically three Buckeye Donuts shops, although some are owned by different people. One Buckeye Donuts is located on OSU’s campus, serving breakfast, gyros, and donuts 24/7 at 1998 N. High St. Another donut stand is located inside of the North Market, and then a third shop, with old-school vibes and a 24/7 drive-thru, located at 1363 S. High St.
