614 feast names his five favorite Columbus gyros

I’m a gyro super fan, and I don’t care if you call it “jye-ro” or “year-oh”—as long as you call it delicious. In the U.S., gyro meats are commonly lamb, a lamb and beef mix, or chicken. The meat is perfectly seasoned, often stacked like shawarma or shaped into a tasty loaf and cooked on a spit. When shaved off, it comes in crispy, juicy, slightly smoky strips, and is loaded into a pita with your choice of toppings— commonly tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and homemade tzatziki sauce. Some gyros even get extra loaded with french fries, feta, and more. Here are my favorite gyros in Columbus:

King Gyros Greek Restaurant (400 S. Hamilton Rd., Whitehall)

They offer a variety of sizes and types of gyros, but my favorite is the King Gyro—6 oz of thinly sliced gyro meat on a warm pita, topped with gyro sauce, diced tomatoes, onions, and shredded lettuce. I like to add banana peppers and feta cheese for a major feast.

Yanni’s Greek Restaurant (6196 Cleveland Ave.)

Their chicken gyro is delicious and packed with flavor, but my go-to is the Large Gyro. It’s a pita loaded with gyro meat (lamb), tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and their homemade creamy garlic dressing.

Habibi Grill (1131 N. 4th St.)

The Lamb Gyro here is a standout—loaded with grilled lamb, lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, onions, and tzatziki cucumber sauce. The lamb is perfectly seasoned, and the tzatziki cucumber sauce is the x-factor. If you’re looking for a meat-free option, I’d falafel if I didn’t tell you about their Falafel Gyro, topped with fried falafel, tomatoes, banana peppers, onions, lettuce, and tzatziki sauce.

Lavash Cafe (2985 N. High St.)

Their Gyro Sandwich is Greek style, with lettuce, tomatoes, and homemade tzatziki sauce rolled and toasted in your choice of bread—either pita or Lavash bread.

Rodos Greek Taverna (2151 W. Granville Rd.)

The Classic Gyro here is served in a hot pita with gyro meat, tzatziki, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, feta, and a handful of french fries. The fries are the x-factor for me. I love their gyro meat, but they also offer Chicken, Souvlaki, Steak, and Falafel options.

These are my favorite gyros in Columbus. If I missed yours, where should we go next?
