614 feast picks his five favorite football-friendly Columbus restaurants

Anthony O'Connell

It’s football season, and while I’m not a sports expert, I am a big fan of good food and great company. These sports bars and restaurants won’t fumble your dining experience—they’ll score a touchdown, even if you couldn’t care less about the score on the field. For me, the key to success is TVs, great food, and even better company. So, let’s kick off this list of my favorite sports bars:

Gresso’s (961 S High St)

Don’t waste time on the sidelines—head to Gresso’s and order the Mozzarella Sticks and Wings. Huge homemade deep-fried Mozzarella Sticks, served with marinara on the side. Gresso Wings come six per order and I like all of their sauces but my favorite is the Hot Honey Garlic sauce, especially dipped in ranch.

Roosters Wings (multiple)

You’re in the red zone when you step into any Roosters for your football feast. My go-to order is the Dumpster Tots—tater tots topped with melted cheese, bacon bits, tomatoes, green onions, and jalapeños, served with their signature Dumpster Dressing. Pair that with a full order of Fried Fingers—four hand-breaded chicken fingers tossed in their hot and garlic sauce.

Gallo’s Tap Room (multiple)

No turnovers here, just great food. My favorite location is 5019 Olentangy River Rd. their menu is stacked with high-quality bar fare. I recommend the 3 Little Pigs Pizza, topped with pepperoni, sausage, and applewood smoked bacon.

Nasty’s Sports Bar & Restaurant (4561 Scioto Darby Rd, Hilliard)

Huddle up at Nasty’s for a game-day feast. Their menu is full of winners, but I suggest the Nasty Nacho Platter—tortilla chips topped with their white queso cheese sauce, jalapeños, tomatoes, scallions, and served with a side of sour cream and salsa. For wings, go for the Flaming Garlic Traditional Chicken Wings.

Meister’s Bar (1168 Chambers Rd)

Looking for a game-changing experience? Have a pizza party and try the 16 inch Meat Lover’s Deep Dish pizza from Meister’s. It’s loaded with pepperoni, sausage, capicola ham and bacon.

These are my favorite spots to watch sports with friends. Now, while I say O-H, you say I-O and tell us where to go next.
