After bankruptcy, retail chain closing another 46 locations, including popular Cbus location

You’ve probably heard by now that the Columbus based retail chain, Big Lots, appears to be going through a tough time.  After initially closing 150 last month, then closing the distribution center and laying off hundreds of employees, then filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and then closing 344 more stores, Big Lots is officially closing four more Ohio locations, with one of them being a high-frequented Columbus store.

In this new round of closures, which now marks 496 total, the location at 1451 5th Ave. will be closing. This brings the total number of Ohio closures to 14, including:

  • 4585 Eastgate Blvd.,Cincinnati (recently added to closure list)
  • 1550 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon (recently added to closure list)
  • 9880 Old US 20, Rossford (recently added to closure list)
  • 1451 5th Ave., Columbus (recently added to closure list)
  • 311 Deo Drive, Newark
  • 11372 Princeton Pike, Springdale
  • 9690 Colerain Ave, Cincinnati
  • 8576 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati
  • 7779 Tylersville Road, West Chester
  • 359 Miamisburg Centerville Road, Centerville
  • 1520 N. Clinton St, Defiance
  • 1170 Indiana Ave., Saint Marys
  • 410 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky
  • 4925 Jackman Road, Toledo

Big Lots cited factors, “such as high inflation and interest rates that are beyond its control,” as to why they’re experiencing a loss in revenue. $700 million in just two years, in fact.

“The prevailing economic trends have been particularly challenging to Big Lots, as its core customers curbed their discretionary spending on the home and seasonal product categories that represent a significant portion of the Company’s revenue,” the company said in a press release.
