Hoster Brewery originally opened in 1836 as Columbus’ first brewery, and after several iterations through the decades, a revival Hoster taproom is set to open on the East Side.

According to a Hoster representative, the newest iteration of the longtime brand will hold public soft opening dates throughout this week, including April 11, 4-9 p.m., April 12, 4-10 p.m. and April 13, 12-10 p.m.

The new Hoster taproom is located at 655 N. James Rd., near the John Glenn International Airport.

“We like the location because it’s off the beaten path. It’s a little hard to find, and will feel almost like a private club,” said managing partner Daniel Meyers in an interview last year.

The LLC behind the new iteration of the brewery purchased the brand and trade rights to Hoster. A previous Hoster taproom was opened at 55 S. High St., but closed in 2004.

The new taproom plans to serve classic German beer styles, alongside several IPAs, seasonal brews and guest taps. The brewery is still exploring its options for food, but beer can also be purchased to go.
