After years of anticipation, new “urban winery” announces opening date

Since at least the fall of 2022, a pair of Hilliard locals—Jenny and Joe Hollabaugh—have been planning to open a nearly 5,000 square foot “urban winery” in Old Hilliard.

And now it’s finally going to happen.

According to owners Jenny and Joe Hollabaugh, Firefly Winery will hold its grand opening tomorrow.

Located at 5435 Franklin St. in Hilliard, the new “urban winery” will create wine in-house using grapes sourced from California. Firefly will feature a Sauvignon Blanc, a white wine blend, a Cabernet Sauvignon, two red wine blends and four fruit wines (peach, strawberry, blackberry and blueberry). It also plans to offer wine slushies and a variety of wine-based cocktails, in addition to a variety of small plates and appetizers.

“It’s surreal to finally be opening after years of preparation and over a year of construction,” Jenny Hollabaugh said. “We are feeling a combination of excitement, nerves, and gratitude for this opportunity. We have seen so much excitement and enthusiasm around our opening and we’ve really appreciated the support from the community.”

Located inside of Hilliard’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, patrons can feel free to explore the surrounding area with a drink in hand.

“Firefly Winery is a perfect addition to the existing vibrancy of Downtown Hilliard,” Hilliard’s Downtown Manager Angela Zody said on the city’s website. “This will be yet another must-experience spot for residents and visitors not only during the summer months but throughout the entire year.”
