Central Ohio takeout pizza building catches fire overnight, caused by “smoldering towels”

According to a press release from Chief Nathan Burns of the Marysville Fire Division, a fire broke out in the early morning hours today in the carryout building of Benny’s Pizza.

Benny’s carryout building–which is next door, but technically separate from Benny’s dining room–is located at 972 Columbus Ave. in Marysville.

According to the Marysville Fire Division, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 2:50 a.m., and due to their fast response, the blaze was extinguished quickly, “limiting the amount of fire damage to the structure.” The full extent of the damage is currently unclear.

The Marysville Fire Community Risk Reduction Bureau investigated the fire–which broke out in the building’s kitchen–and determined it was caused by an accident. The blaze was started by “smoldering towels,” according to the press release.

Crews from Allen Twp., Jerome Twp., Pleasant, Valley Joint Fire District, Northwestern Fire District, Northern Union County Joint Fire  and EMS District, Washington Twp., Concord Twp., Delaware County EMS,Marysville Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Union County EMS provided assistance.
