Columbus-area bakery warns it could close “if things don’t change quickly”

A central Ohio bakery needs your help to keep its doors open.

According to a post from Fat Girl Bakery, which is located at 6457 Hamilton Rd. in Westerville, the local spot for sweet treats will be forced to close unless”things changes quickly,” owner Amy Wahlen wrote in a recent Facebook post.

“My sweets. We need you. We will be next on the closing list if things don’t change quickly. I’ve been in the hospital for weeks now and my team is working so hard. WE NEED YOU. Or we will have to close our doors soon. All these wonderful shops having to close their doors recently. Please pass this along. Our struggle is real,” Wahlen’s post reads.

Fat Girl Bakery moved into a new Westerville storefront in May from its former Lewis Center home. While the new space affords the local bakery–which is well known for brownies and cupcakes–more space, according to Whalen, the store’s visibility, more precisely, the lack thereof, is currently the largest challenge facing the concept.

“People still say they don’t know we are there. We have such a broad selection on the daily plus all you can order. But it comes back to, ‘Oh I didn’t even know you were there,” Wahlen told 614Now. “Noah, my son, runs the evening and says he can’t believe how many people say they didn’t even know we were there.”
