Local foodie holding March Madness style vote-in tournament to find Columbus’ best bakery

Columbus food creator Jessica Caton Diefenbach, better known as Munchybeak on Instagram, is leaning into March Madness, only basketballs are being replaced by loaves of bread.

Now for the third year, Caton Diefenbach is holding Munchybeak Madness, a March Madness-inspired “tournament” where Instagram users can vote to crown their favorite Columbus bakeries.

Starting with 32 different local bakeries (including everything from the new and flashy Parable to tried and true favorites like Schneider’s Bakery), Munchybeak Madness 2024 is widening its scope, and embracing eateries outside of those in Columbus proper.

“This year has more than just Columbus representing as earlier in the competition, we had Newark, Grove City, and Delaware — now it just looks like Delaware is representing with The Dipped Donut,” Caton Diefenbach said.

The contest is currently in the Eatin’ 8 round, which you can vote on (in Munchybeak’s Instagram stories) until 8 p.m. tonight. This round includes the following matchups:

-Schneider’s Bakery v. Parable
-The Dipped Donut v. Fat Girl Bakery
-Blackberry Confections LLC vs Plenty O’ Cookies
-Midnight Baker vs One Hail of a Cookie

The Final Foodie Four round will take place on Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m. in Munchybeak’s Instagram stories, and the National Chompionship Game will be held April 1 at 1 p.m.
