Iconic restaurant offering ‘stuffed-crust’ pizza on menu

Sav McKee

There’s Columbus-style pizza, New York-style pizza, deep-dish pizza, Detroit-style, and even stuffed pizza, which is absolutely not to be confused with deep-dish.

Stuffed pizza has become increasingly popular these days, mostly known for the fact there’s an additional layer of dough on top, which is then drenched in a pizza sauce and sometimes topped with even more cheese.

While Gallo’s Tap Room already knows a thing or two about New York-style pizza (a menu favorite!) they’re now offering a stuffed version once a week on Mondays. Customers have their choice of toppings, and then the pizza is covered with another layer of crust, edged with a high rim of golden-brown dough, and then topped with plum tomatoes, pizza sauce, Italian herbs, and Parmigiano-Reggiano.

“The experience is unbelievable,” said Nick Gallo, a partner in the restaurant group. “The extra crust makes an already delicious pizza that much better.”

It takes an hour to cook an entire stuffed pizza, so customers are encouraged to order ahead to ensure their pizza is ready when they arrive at the restaurant. Or they can simply grab a table and enjoy some beer and appetizers while they wait!

Gallo said the stuffed pizzas will test the heartiest appetites. “These things are massive,” he said. “It will feed three or four people.”

These sought after stuffed-crust pizzas are available from 4 to 8:45 p.m., dine-in only, on Mondays only. Gallo’s Tap Room is located off of Bethel Rd. at 5019 Olentangy River Rd.
