‘Hidden’ speakeasy opening soon in brewery district

A new Brewery District nightlife spot may just become your next favorite place to grab a drink, assuming you know where to find it.

The Velvet Room, according to owner Jesse “JP” Patterson, is planning to soon in the same building as Smash Buddies. 

The concept will be located at 460 S. Front St. Patterson said he’s aiming to open the new nightlife spot the weekend of Aug. 31, the same weekend Smash Buddies plans to open.

According to Patterson, the new bar embraces both the concept of the hidden speakeasy and the difficult to find nature of the storefront itself.

“Long story short, that whole space is hidden anyway, so let’s just call it what it is,” he said with a laugh. The new speakeasy will not require a password like others in Columbus have, although it will require a membership.

While the Vault will also offer wine and craft cocktails, it will specialize in bourbon, particularly unique and difficult to source varieties.
