Historic German Village-area bar & grill gets new owners and an elevated menu

A long-time neighborhood watering hole is going through some changes.

The Red Brick Tap & Grill, a bar and restaurant that opened in a bygone, 1930s inn, first opened in 2013 after the owners gutted the space, turning it into a restaurant that’s famously known for its pizza and bar fare.

A decade later, and new owners, Mario Fitros and Erik Till have taken over. While everything you love about the space, like their pizza, wings and dozens of beer choices, will remain the same, Fitros and Till have added more Mediterranean and Greek influences to the menu.

It’s still a neighborhood bar, situated on a cozy, quiet corner in Merion Village, about two blocks from German Village proper. But now, it’s a little more elevated – you’ll find lobster grilled cheese, lobster tots, mushroom risotto, and even steak frites.

Stop by any day of the week at 292 E. Gates St. They’re open Mondays and Tuesdays, 4pm-11pm, and then 11am-11pm the rest of the week, besides Sunday when they close at 10pm. Cheers!
