‘Just swinging the weiner into your mouth:’ Columbus bar holds ‘Sausage Swinging’ contest for Oktoberfest

Jack McLaughlin

A Hilliard beer garden recently got into the Oktoberfest spirit in one of the best ways we can think of: “Sausage Swinging.”

HillGarten–which sells beer, wine and German-small plates in a communal outdoor setting–recently held its Oktoberfest 2024 celebration, which featured a new Sausage Swinging challenge.

And it’s exactly what it sounds like. Each participant affixed a sausage to their body by tying a piece of string around their waist, and attaching the other end to a sausage. They would then swing their hips to generate momentum for the sausage, and attempt to catch it with in their mouths. The first person to catch the sausage in their mouth was deemed the winner.

Here’s how HilGarten described it:

“Just swinging the wiener into your mouth and catch it without using your hands.”

A HilGarten representative told 614Now that two groups of six completed, and that they plan to offer the contest again in 2025. We’ll keep our fingers, and our sausages crossed.
