Local ice cream maker releasing new “Spice Cream,” topped with hot chili sauce

A Columbus-based ice cream maker is adding some heat to their cold treats.

Late last week, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams introduced Spice Cream, which combines Jeni’s ice cream with Sichuan Chili Crisp, a spicy Sichuan sauce from Fly by Jiang.

“Now scooping: Spice Cream. Aka the hottest treat of the summer. Spicy, savory, crunchy chili crisp from our friends at @flybyjing spooned on top of our decadent, buttercream-smooth scoops,” a social media post from Jeni’s reads. “This sweet-heat flavor play is so mind-melting, so stop-you-in-your-tracks delicious, we want to everyone to give it a try. So, for a limited time, you can top your scoops with Fly By Jing Sichuan Chili Crisp — on us!”

Jeni’s allows customers to add Sichuan Chili Crisp to any of their flavors, but they also floated an official recommendation about added scoops to add it to.

“Darkest Chocolate, Double Dough, and Salty Caramel all topped with Chili Crisp and served in a Buttercrisp Waffle Bowl,” Jeni’s post reads. The order is available in Jeni’s scoop shops nationwide.

Spice Cream will be offered for a limited time, and only while supplies last, according to a Jeni’s representative.
