Long-standing Columbus ice cream spot reopens for business

Jack McLaughlin

An ice cream institution on the city’s northwest side has reopened.

The ever-popular Mardi Gras Homemade Ice Cream officially reopened for business in late March. The ice cream shop historically closes at the end of each summer before reopening in the spring.

The long-standing scoop shop is located at 1947 Hard Rd.

Mardi Gras Homemade Ice Cream, the interior of which is plastered in photographs of patrons enjoying their ice cream, has long served as a staple for Columbus dessert fans. This is not only due to it operating for decades, but also to the uniqueness of the flavors offered. In addition to traditional American ice cream, shakes and more, Mardi Gras offers a variety of kulfi, a denser and creamier version of ice cream popular in India and parts of the Middle East, in addition to unique “international” ice cream flavors, such as Kesar Pista (saffron and pistachio), Lychee and many more.

The northwest side dessert spot is open from 1-9:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 1-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
