Nearly two-decade-old popcorn shop officially closing after owner continues to battle cancer

Sav McKee

Earlier this summer, a beloved shop inspired by Chicago popcorn announced they would be temporarily closing due to the owner taking medical leave.

Pam’s Market Popcorn & Windy City Eats, located at 955 E. Johnstown Rd., will not be reopening though, according to Pam Tylka. She posted on Facebook that “…after a lot of thinking (and a few colorful words), I’ve come to the hard realization that Pam’s Popcorn will not be reopening.”

Pam said that she’s been fighting cancer for a while now, and more health problems have arose. “But don’t worry, I’m not down for the count just yet! I still have plenty of fight left, and I’m enjoying time with my “Children of the Corn” (yes, that’s what I call my kids, and no, they don’t get a say in it). To everyone who’s supported me over the years, I can’t thank you enough. The calls, emails, and love have been a huge blessing. Being part of Ohio’s food scene has been a wild and wonderful ride, and I’m so grateful to have been along for it.

“Now, for those of you out there thinking, ‘I could totally sling some popcorn like Pam,’ I have good news! My equipment is for sale (secrets not included—those are going to the grave with me). If you’re interested, send me a DM, and let’s talk. I’ll leave you with this: Keep the faith, stay grateful for every moment (even the not so great ones) and never forget, life is better with popcorn and some good tunes in the background.

With all my love and gratitude,
Pam”
