New store, sourcing dairy, produce from dozens of Ohio farmers acts as indoor farmers market

Imagine a store with the format of a consignment shop, only featuring dozens of local farmers and produce instead of clothing and trinkets?

You don’t have to imagine anymore, because that’s exactly what the Winchester Farm Exchange is.

Located in a historic building at 8 S. High St. in Downtown Canal Winchester, the unique new concept held its grand opening on Aug. 24.

According to Chelsie Casagrande Smith, who started Winchester Farm Exchange alongside Trish Preston of Preston Family Farm, the storefront was created out of the duo’s “combined interest in bringing our community fresh, local food directly from the farmers in our surrounding areas,” Smith told 614Now.

Patrons can purchase produce, dairy, meat and more from dozens of farmers, all of whom hail from Ohio.

“Rooted in the rich agricultural tapestry of Canal Winchester, our local grocery store, Winchester Farm Exchange, is more than just a place to shop; it’s a celebration of community, sustainability, and the farm-to-table ethos,” a post from the Exchange’s Instagram account reads.  “Exclusively sourcing our products from farms from right here to all of Ohio, we are embarking on a mission to create a one-of-a-kind shopping experience building a true localized food system that will become an anchor institution for our community.”

According to Smith, the store’s opening weekend saw a massive turnout of more than 2,500 visitors.
