Ohio brands claim 2 of top 3 spots in ‘Bon Appetit’s’ search for best cookies and cream ice cream

Jack McLaughlin

According to a national search by Bon Appetit, two of the country’s three best examples of cookies and cream ice cream are located right here in Ohio.

Last month, Bon Appetit pitted 10 nation ice cream brands against each other (you can read the story here), and while Ohio didn’t claim the top spot, it did grab both second and third place.

As a part of Bon Appetit’s “Taste Test” series, the publication chose 10 different ice cream brands with cookies and cream flavors, focusing on those which were widely available, and those that fell squarely in the cookies and cream ice cream category (meaning no dairy-free, gelato or custard products).

The publication named three “winners,” which included Jeni’s Cookies in Cream in second place and Graeter’s Cookies & Cream in third.

Here’s what Bon Appetit had to say about why Jeni’s ranked so highly:

“Luxury! That was the feeling we got when we took our first nibbles of Jeni’s Cookies in Cream ice cream. We didn’t get many huge cookie chunks, but we were surprised and delighted to find white chocolate curls scattered throughout our pint,” the story reads. LThey added a light crunch, echoing the ‘creme’ center of milk’s favorite cookie, in a less cloying way. Ribbons of crushed cookies provided the occasional sandy crunch, which Adam called ‘very enjoyable.’”

Haagen-Das Cookies & Cream took the taste test’s top spot.
