Owner of Powell cocktail club opening second concept in former Masonic lodge

Powell’s private cocktail club, 80 East, expands to Plain City with 114 West. Owner Gretchen Bonasera, who launched the Powell location in 2022, is excited to bring this chic bourbon and cocktail bar to the historic building at 114 W. Main St.

Bonasera sees great potential in the Plain City area. “When we mention our location, people often respond with ‘Oh yeah,’ recognizing the booming development and influx of businesses here. Instead of waiting five years for the city to peak, we chose to dive in now and grow alongside Plain City from the start,” she shared with 614Now.

The allure of 114 West goes beyond its promising location. “We were drawn to the idea of a building with a rich history, one that could tell its own stories just like a fine bourbon,” Bonasera shared.

“Discovering that the building was originally built by masons and that the third floor was their exclusive club was like finding a hidden gem. It’s exciting to bring this place back to its historic roots.”

The building, originally constructed in 1869 as a Masonic lodge, will accommodate a 3,000-square-foot bar and restaurant. While it won’t replicate the cozy nooks of 80 East’s old house location, moveable walls and partitions will create intimate spaces. A private dining area will feature black walnut tables crafted from a tree on the Powell property.

In keeping with the speakeasy atmosphere of its Powell counterpart, 114 West will offer a hidden entrance to the third floor, guiding members through a small library room before entering the main area. The menu will echo that of 80 East, focusing on bourbon while also offering popular selections like tequila and rum. For non-cocktail enthusiasts, there will be a variety of wines and both craft and macro beers to enjoy.

“We’re kicking things off with exclusive, invite-only events starting next Friday, followed by a soft opening in the latter half of July,” Bonasera announced. “For those eager to join us, just engage with our Instagram page to get an invitation.”

With its unique blend of history, elegance, and exclusivity, 114 West is set to become a standout destination in Plain City, offering a sophisticated retreat for bourbon and cocktail enthusiasts.
