‘Reader’s Digest’ names this the best burger in Ohio in 2024 – and it’s right here in Columbus

Two hand-ground burger patties with melted cheese in between, then smothered in secret, special sauces that resemble a BBQ and a tangy tartar sauce, all tucked into buttery toasted buns, and topped with a pimento olive on a toothpick, and you’ve got yourself the best burger in Ohio this year, and even many years before.

The Galley Boy at Swensons Drive-In has, yet again, made it on Reader’s Digest famous list of the best burgers in every state. Swensons not only serves the best burger in Ohio, but their website claims the Galley Boy is “America’s Best Cheeseburger, too.”

This Akron-based burger shop was established in 1934, first serving hamburgers of a station wagon parked at Buchtel High School. It quickly drew a big crowd, and a brick & mortar was necessary. For decades, Swensons has been known for being one of the last-standing drive-in concepts. When you visit, you turn on your lights for service, and a curb server sprints to your car to serve you.
