Restaurant group behind Local Cantina opening new, from-scratch restaurant and tavern concept

Orange Umbrella Restaurants, the group behind popular Columbus spots like Local Cantina, Liberty Tavern and more, is bringing a new from-scratch restaurant and tavern to Johnstown.

Uncle Johnnie’s, which is located at 65 S. Main St. in Johnstown, officially opens for business today. The eatery is open 3-10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 3-11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 3 p.m.-12 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 3-10 p.m. on Sunday.

“We, Orange Umbrella Restaurant Group, saw an opportunity in an underserved market. The area is continuing to expand, and we’re excited to contribute to the growth of the food scene in Johnstown,” Orange Umbrella owner George Tanchevski told 614Now.

According to Tanchevski, the new restaurant’s name is an homage to the Mansfield eatery Uncle John’s, which was started by his father in 1971 and is currently operated by his brother.

“I think it’s nostalgic for the small town Americana that I miss from growing up and working there in the late 70s and 80s. Coincidentally, the mascot of the local high school is the Johnnie’s, so we felt like it was meant to be,” he said.

The new eatery will serve “tavern classics” that are made from scratch daily, including pizza, burgers, subs, salads, ice cream sundaes and more.
