Say cheese! 614feasts names the best cheesy appetizers in town

Anthony O'Connell

Say cheese! Just like a smile before a photo, a cheesy appetizer is the perfect way to start your meal. Whether it’s the deep-fried goodness of mozzarella sticks, cheese curds, or something light and refreshing like mozzarella or feta — cheese just makes everything better. Here are five of my favorite cheesy appetizers:

Little Palace Restaurant (240 S. 4th St.)
Local Fried Cheese Curds sourced from Blue Jackets Dairy which is an artisan cheese business located in Bellefontaine, Ohio. You can taste the difference with the local artisan cheese, the cheese curds have a crispy exterior with a gooey melty interior, perfectly salty, buttery, and I think they’re so good they don’t need any dip, do you dip yours in honey mustard?

Pat and Gracie’s (multiple)
Mozzarella Sticks are one of the best appetizers around, deep-fried cheese? Yes, please! Pat and Gracie’s serves up hand-cut mozzarella sticks that are breaded in herb crumbs and fried to golden perfection. Pair them with marinara sauce, and to really step it up a notch, ask for a side of their house-made ranch.

Lola & Giuseppe’s Trattoria (100 Granville St.)
Insalata Caprese this iconic Italian salad is light, delicious, and it’s beautiful with the same colors as the Italian flag. This salad is loaded with fresh slices of Roma tomatoes and high quality fresh mozzarella cheese topped with basil and drizzled with a wonderful aged balsamic reduction.

Forno Kitchen + Bar (721 N. High St.)
Burrata, warm Arrabiata, and grilled bread. Burrata is a luxurious Italian cheese known for its creamy, decadent texture. An outer shell of solid mozzarella, which contains a rich, soft interior made from a blend of cream and stracciatella (shreds of mozzarella). This pairs perfectly with the slightly spicy sauce and the crispy grilled bread.

Casa Jalisco (5445 Roberts Rd., Hilliard, OH)
Chori Queso Dip a feast of melted cheese and grilled Mexican pork sausage, this dip is packed with authentic flavor and just the right amount of spice. The generous portions make it perfect for sharing—if you’re feeling generous.
