Seafood chain abruptly closed ‘unprofitable’ Ohio location, plans 22 other closures this week

Sav McKee

We’re sorry to report the bad news – there’s one less place in Ohio for those famous cheddar bay biscuits, and 22 less nationally.

Back in May, the national seafood chain Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing a series of missteps, such as making the $20 all-you-can-eat shrimp a permanent menu feature, instead of just an annual, limited-time offer, which cost the company $11 million.

Red Lobster initially closed 100 restaurants, but now, 23 more are abruptly closing. The Strongsville location at 17227 Southpark Center is officially closed.

According to a court filing from August 22, Red Lobster is rejecting the leases at these locations, which they called “unprofitable.”

The restaurant group currently owes about $365 million.
