The Secret Sauce: The new small-batch pasta concept requiring a secret password for pickup

Jack McLaughlin

Jake Vincent longs for the days where a Sunday family dinner was an all-day event. But instead of just remembering them fondly, he’s doing something about it.

Last month, Vincent’s new small-batch pickup pasta concept, Secret Sunday Sauce, officially opened to the public.

“I really miss the old school tradition of having a big Sunday dinner at home with family and friends, and I am more than happy to spend all day making pasta and sauce, so I figured that I would scale up my batches and share that with the neighborhood,” he said.

Every week, he’ll make 10 (only 10 too, so don’t wait to order) servings of pasta and sauce. Typically, the latter is tomato-based, but both pasta shape and sauce recipe are rotated weekly. Some weeks will see traditional, by-the-book recipes, and others will be a bit more inventive.

To order, simply DM him at the Secret Sunday Sauce Instagram account. You’ll be given that week’s secret password for pickup, and your food will be ready by 5 p.m. on Sunday.

And don’t worry, you’ll be getting plenty of pasta.

“The portions are BIG! I’m a glutton when it comes to pasta and I made sure that an individual serving is enough to satisfy that,” he said.

While the concept feels fresh and fun, don’t expect to see anything large-scale right away. Vincent, who works for a wine importer as his day job, doesn’t have long-term plans for a food truck or brick and mortar, or at least not anytime soon.

“I think that Sunday dinner is best enjoyed in the comfort of home, but you never know,” he said.
