This 160 year-old central Ohio restaurant has been sold to new owners

Less than two years after Bun’s Restaurant was sold to new owners in the fall of 2022, it has been taken over by another new ownership group, and they have their sights set on returning the iconic Delaware, Ohio eatery to form.

First sold in the fall of 2022, Bun’s was then sold to a four-person ownership team earlier this month, made up of Troy Watson, Catharine Watson, Angel Kerr and Rob Kerr.

“We saw the way it was being run as a, “We need to help this situation,” and we thought we were the right people to bring it back to what it once was,” Troy Watson said.

Angel Kerr, who is originally from Mississippi but has lived in central Ohio for decades, has also lived in Delaware, where she was acquainted with Bun’s first hand.

The eatery originally opened in 1864, although its bakery building burned down in 2002. While the new ownership group will not be bringing back Bun’s bakery, they do plan to give the landmark spot some remodeling upgrades, and have spent the last week cleaning thoroughly.

“When we bought Bun’s, it was pretty run down,” Watson said. “We’ve had to pretty much reinvent the kitchen.”

Additionally, the four-person ownership group boasts decades of restaurant experience, both on the side of management and as staff.

“I grew up in the restaurant industry, from bussing to serving, and at one point, all of us were in management,” Angel Kerr said.

And for the food itself? The new owners plan to upgrade the taste and presentation of many of Bun’s menu items, but they’ll still keep plenty of classic dishes, like the Liver and Onions, on the menu.

“We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, we just want everything to taste better,” Troy Watson said.
