Alligator spotted in Lake Erie

While the Great Lakes may be—as the souvenir shirts and bumper stickers say—“unsalted and shark free,” according to recent reports, they may not be entirely alligator-free.

Earlier this month, according to a Facebook post from Stina Roach and multiple reports, several individuals encountered an alligator while they were in Lake Erie.

“Well kids were all swimming and all of a sudden a f***ing alligator swims up on everyone lmao. Like what the hell. First time for everything too,” Roach posted.

The sighting occurred just off the East Avenue Boat Ramp in Erie, Pennsylvania, according to comments on Roach’s post.

According to a YourErie.com report, the Erie Port Authority of is aware of the sighting, and has a team in place monitoring it the area, and there have been no additional sightings as of Thursday morning.

An Erie Port Authority representative told 614Now that the organization is currently only speaking to local media about the incident, as they’ve been inundated with calls about the sighting.

“We’ve had people calling from all over,” the representative said,

The YourErie.com story noted that the Port Authority is also working with local trappers to find the animal, which is reportedly 4-5 feet long.
