Columbus-area emu escapes, second Ohio emu on the loose in two months
It wasn’t Big Bird, but the emu that escaped in Delawares County over the weekend is truly a big bird.
According to a social media post from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, an escaped emu was eventually recaptured over the weekend.
On Aug. 17, the Office posted about the emu’s escape, urging anyone who had seen the animal to call them.

“Do you recognize this ‘bird?’ It has been wandering around the area of SR 605 and Center Village all afternoon. Please help us reunite it with its owner,” the post reads.
The next day, the post was updated, noting that the emu had been reunited with its owner.
Interestingly enough, this wasn’t the only escaped emu in Ohio to make the news recently. In June, a loose emu was reported to the Middleton, Ohio Police, just outside of Cincinnati, according to a WLWT story. It’s unclear if and when this emu was recaptured.
