Former Ohio State football player arrested yesterday on federal charges
A former wide receiver for the Buckeyes was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 22, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Columbus.
Corey Davonta Smith was a wide receiver for the Buckeyes from 2013-2016, closing his OSU career with 31 receptions and 351 yards. But in 2021, Smith was sentenced to 57 months of incarceration for his role in a drug distribution, according to United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.

Smith pled guilty to one count of “Aiding and Abetting Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine” in July of 2020. The United State’s Attorney’s office’s press release says that Smith admitted to working with others to distribute 50 grams or more of crystal meth, also known as “ice,” in November of 2018.
However, Smith was arrested most recently due to violating federal parole and failure to appear in court for a 2018 aggravated robbery charge in West Virginia. He was arrested at a home on Republic Avenue near Linden.
