Local restaurant vandalized with racist graffiti; local businesses pitch in to help clean it up
A local, beloved Mediterranean restaurant was vandalized yesterday, but thanks to other local businesses, the racist remarks have already been cleaned off their windows.
Lavash Cafe, located at 2985 N. High St. in Clintonville since 2008, posted on their Instagram account that someone vandalized their doors with racist graffiti, but that the community is rallying behind them. “We love our Clintonville neighborhood because of moments like this,” Lavash posted. “Last night, someone messaged us after discovering racist graffiti on our windows and new vinyl bakery door.”

They continued, “After sharing it on our Instagram story, community members messaged with support and suggestions on clean up. We went to @beechwoldhardware first thing this morning and of course they had a solution as usual. We even had @curbappealclean offer to come clean! Thank you and we love you all. ❤️ #FightRacismTogether”
Lavash is known for incredible, authentic Mediterranean cuisine, ranging from fresh falafel to kabobs, to even an array of hand crated desserts, plus home-made hummus and warm pita.
Nasir and Jamal are the co-owners of Lavash Cafe. Nasir owned Firdous express in the North Market and Kingsdale Shopping Center, but after selling his concept, he moved to Dubai for a few years to open another restaurant concept. He missed his home back in Columbus though, and he approached Jamal about opening a new restaurant together. And so, Lavash Cafe was born! “Becoming stakeholders in their community, Jamal and Nasir love being able to use the restaurant to engage/support people and organizations who are trying to bring about positive change,” says their website.
If you want to extend your support, they’re closed on Mondays, but open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am-9pm, and Sundays, 11am-8pm.
