German Village storefront closes after seven years, Plant Gays slated to take over spot

Ever since early 2017, STUMP German Village has stood next to Fox in the Snow’s German Village coffee shop. As of early July, however, this STUMP location has closed its doors for good.

The concept continues to operate its original Italian Village spot, as well as storefronts in Lancaster, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Savannah, Georgia.

“Embracing change with mixed emotions, we have decided to close our German Village location. This decision, driven by the evolution of life, business, and sales, marks a new chapter for us,” an Instagram post announcing STUMP’s closure reads. “Thank you for all your support over the past seven and a half years of business at 220 Thurman Ave. We can’t express enough our gratitude to the German Village community and visitors for shopping with us.”

,Likely before the end of the month, we’ll have a replacement for the plant and interior decor vendor. The Plant Gays, a similar concept, offering unique planters and more, will take over the storefront.

According to co-owner David Erbe, the new Plant Gays location is slated to open in the last week of September, although an official date hasn’t been announced.

“We’ve been looking to expand into a little bit bigger space for a few years, but it’s been hard trying to find that perfect space that’s not too close to other plant shops, while still meeting our business needs,” Erbe said. “We’re excited to be part of the German VIllage community.”

Acting as the concept’s first standalone storefront, the Plant Gays plan to add events and classes to their list of offerings, in addition to a new flower cooler. Erbe noted with the closure of Village Petals, German Village’s flower vendors have taken a hit.

The Plant Gays currently has a location inside of the East Market, which will remain open, marking the concept’s second location.
