Celebrate National Thrift Shop Day tomorrow at Goodwill!

Sav McKee

Let’s be real – everyone has that one pair of jeans tucked away in the closet, waiting for the day that they’ll fit again. Instead of waiting around for that to actually happen, why not give those jeans a fresh start in someone else’s wardrobe, find an affordable pair that you can actually wear right here and now, and support thousands of individuals in our community all while doing so?

Tomorrow is National Thrift Shop Day, and Goodwill invites you to partake and celebrate! Whether you’re donating those jeans, hunting for a new pair, or just discovering all that Goodwill does for the Columbus community (did you know they divert 13 million pounds of clothing from entering central Ohio landfills each year?) – there’s something for everyone.

A trip to Goodwill is more than just a shopping adventure, and a donation to the non-profit is more than just clearing out clutter – it’s also a chance to support thousands of workers and a multitude of initiatives here in central Ohio.

Those old jeans you donated are getting a new lease on life at Goodwill, and they’re creating unique opportunities for employees, many of whom have disabilities or setbacks impacting their career choices. From the welcoming hands at the donation center, to the taggers and organizers categorizing the racks and shelves, your donation or purchase fuels a collective effort to change the world. Yes, even one pair of jeans at a time!

Goodwill has also teamed up with local organizations to help individuals build new skills and find a career. Their partnership with Franklinton Cycle Works, for instance, teaches individuals with disabilities how to refurbish bikes and earn additional income! Through collaborations with the Columbus Urban League and Pursuit, the My Brother’s Closet program offers free suits and career coaching for individuals looking to reenter the workforce after justice system setbacks. And their collaboration with The Harmony Project and We Amplify Voices offers participants with disabilities a platform to express themselves through music and art. Plus, Goodwill’s State Tested Nursing Assistant training that opens doors for those pursuing careers in healthcare.

Caring has never been easier – or more stylish, or more cool. For over 85 years, Goodwill has been making clothing and appliances affordable and accessible, while also supporting the workforce of today and tomorrow, all thanks to your contributions (and probably your thrift store shopping addiction!). They’re not stopping anytime soon.

Celebrate National Thrift Shop Day tomorrow by visiting one of the many Goodwill locations in central Ohio – find the nearest one here.

And in the meantime, see how your donation makes an impact in our community:
