Columbus Children’s Theatre rounds out 61st season with musical rendition of Disney classic

The Disney score that captivated millions across the world in the 1990s is coming to Columbus’ Lincoln Theatre later this month.

To wrap up its 61st season, Columbus Children’s Theatre will be producing Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Based on the Victor Hugo novel and the songs from the Academy Award-winning Disney movie (with new music from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz), Hunchback promises to take Columbus residents on a beautiful, music-driven tour of Medieval Paris.

“Getting to do this production in this place in particular is so incredibly special to me. I began taking acting lessons at CCT when I was seven years old where I fell in love with performing,” said Olivia Noel, who will play the role of Esmeralda. “I grew up watching the movie and seeing so much of myself in Esmeralda in hopes that she would be a part of my path. It truly is such a magical full circle moment and I can’t believe it’s right here.”

Directed by David Glover, with Zac DelMonte serving as Music Director and Producing Artistic Director, the musical’s cast is made up mostly of local music teachers and vocal professionals. With an additional choir of 12, the production features more than 35 performers who will bring this lush vocal score to life on stage.

CCT’s season kicked off with Ragtime and continued with the immersive and interactive Sleepwalker of Holstenwall. Serving as its final production of the season, Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame will run April 26 – May 5 at the Lincoln Theatre. The musical is approximately 150 minutes long, across two acts, with an intermission.
