Everything you need to know about COSI’s massive multi-day science festival this week
One of the most exciting and anticipated events is officially back this week, bigger and better than ever!
That’s right – it’s almost time for COSI’s Science Festival, a multi-day community extravaganza with science-inspired activities throughout central Ohio, ending with a huge party at COSI on the last day. Kids are encouraged to attend behind-the-scene tours, educational talks, nature walks, and much more, connecting them with the importance of science.
So, when is it?
This year, the COSI Science Festival will be May 1-4. Community events will take place at different venues across the city from May 1-3, and the Big Science Festival, where over 100 exhibitor stations and hands-on science experiments gather outside of COSI for a massive celebration, will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 11am-5pm.
Where is it?
From May 1-3, communities and organizations throughout Columbus will be hosting fun events! Everywhere from Land-Grant Brewing Company, to The Fire Museum, to Crimson Cup & Coffee will be hosting fun, science-themed events for kids.
But on May 4 specifically, the Big Science Festival will be held on the Scioto Peninsula in front of COSI, located at 333 W. Broad St.
Tell me more about the community events!
You can find a full list of events here. The festival’s community events will include science-based trivia and karaoke, test driving a soap box derby race car, glassblowing, a metalworking demonstration, and so much more.
What exactly is the Big Science Celebration?
Held on May 4, the event acts as the grand finale of the COSI Science Festival. Hundreds of exciting exhibitor stations bring hands-on science experiments hosted by STEAM professionals, researchers, and experts from central Ohio and beyond. Visitors can stop by the different displays and experiment with the help of people that are extremely passionate about science!
You can see all of the Big Science Celebration participants here.
How much does it cost?
One of the best parts of all of this is that many of the community events and the Big Science Festival are completely free, but there are some events that have a charge. You can find more about those costs on COSI’s website.
Where can I park on May 4?
You can find parking options close to COSI here.
COSI has partnered with COTA to offer free rides to and from the COSI Science Festival May 1 – 4, 2024. Guests can pick up a free ride pass at the COSI Guest Services Desk or at any Columbus Metropolitan Library branch, starting 4/27 and while supplies last. Additional ride passes will be available at the COTA booth on May 4, the day of the Big Science Celebration at COSI.
Will there be food on May 4?
Of course! About a dozen food vendors, including favorites like Pitabilities, Swenson’s, and Roosters, will be there, along with a funnel cake stand and many others.
Is there an age requirement?
This festival is for all ages – yes, even adults! There are several events just for the 21+ crowd.
We’ll see you there!
