Ohio officials seize pounds of liquid mercury from Facebook Marketplace seller

In a unique situation for the Sandusky County Emergency Management Agency (SCEMA), the organization seized multiple pounds of liquid mercury from a Facebook Marketplace vendor who was attempting to sell the substance.
According to a press release from the SCEMA, the Agency, along with multiple partnering organizations, confiscated more than 35 pounds of liquid mercury from an individual who was attempting to sell it on Facebook Marketplace, although he had yet to complete any sales of it.

Mercury is toxic to the nervous system, and liquid mercury vaporizes at room temperature. If inhaled, the vapor can cause damage to multiple organ systems and even death.
The SCEMA is not pursuing charges in the seizure. According to a story from WTVG, the seller acquired the mercury from a junkyard.
