Billed as a “contemporary dance spectacle” by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, The Hip Hop Nutcracker transports the classic E.T.A. Hoffman ballet from 1800s Germany to New York City today.
And while this updated holiday classic still leans on the iconic score from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, it does so after giving his iconic compositions a contemporary shot in the arm. It features a slate of twelve all-star dancers, an electric violin, a DJ, as well as one of the godfathers of hip hop, MC Kurtis Blow, who will open the performance with a short set of his own.
