Child seriously injured after being run over by homecoming parade float

A child was critically injured after being run by a homecoming parade float in Sunbury on Saturday evening.

Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday evening, an 11 year-old boy was run over by a truck-driven float that was a part of the Big Walnut homecoming parade in Sunbury.

The boy, who according to a GoFundMe account created by a family member, goes by the name Kenny. Police said he was walking alongside the float when he fell and was run over by the vehicle.

Police said he was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition. According to the GoFundMe page, Kenny suffered multiple fractures in his facial bones, a pelvic fracture, several broken ribs, and a laceration to his liver. 

Since the incident, the boy’s aunt, Christina Burton, has provided multiple updates on his condition via the fundraising page. Yesterday, Burton said he was responding by using hand motions and nodding his head, an improvement over his initial condition. “This was the relief we all needed,” she wrote.

She noted she plans to provide an update on his condition sometime today as well.

 At the time this story was published, the GoFundMe had raised over $80,000, after only originally asking for $1,000.
