This Columbus-area coffee shop is considering building the world’s largest coffee cup

Ryan McGuire, the co-owner of Bella’s Beans in Granville, is thinking big. Literally.

According to McGuire, who doubles as a creator of large-scale public art, he’s considering creating the world’s largest coffee cup for Bella’s Beans. And yes, we’re talking Guinness Book of World Records-certified.

“We’re talking about a massive behemoth that other roadside attractions, including the 12-foot ball of twine, could fit inside. The size of the Bella’s Beans mug would be 18 to 20 feet tall, about the height of a two-story house with a diameter of 25 feet,” he said. “When it comes to creating massive oddities, you don’t just settle for big; you go for the gold and aim for the world record.”

McGuire noted the current world records stands at 11.5 feet in diameter, 10 feet in height, and holds over 7,000 gallons of coffee, a mark he called “child’s play.”

The artist and business owner doesn’t yet know where the sculpture would go. He said building it on the new Intel campus is a consideration, but nothing is set in stone just yet.

The good news is this: McGuire has plenty of experience creating massive sculptures, including a giant sunny side egg on a hotel, a 12-foot tall robot, a dinosaur car, and a literal monster truck. 

“We have the potential to do something downright ridiculous and be celebrated for it, and this is why, I think a ‘Goonie’ he said, ‘childhood dreams of being record-breakers never die!’”
