From trivia to glassblowing, here are the five best adult-friendly events at the COSI Science Festival
Who said the COSI Science Festival is just for kids?
This year, the festival (which runs May 3-6), will host a full slate of community events located around Columbus from May 3-5, with the grand finale, the Big Science Celebration, held in front of COSI on May 6.
While the festival offers plenty of events specifically for the little ones, this doesn’t mean Mom and Dad will be bored. Far from it, actually. We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite adult-friendly events that you can check out without the kids.
Alchochemy: Exploring the Science of Mead
May 4, $20
Located at Zen Meadery in Worthington, participants will learn all about the science behind creating mead, from fermentation to aging. The event even includes a tour of their Worthington facility and a tasting experience.
May 4, pay what you can
This event is technically kid-friendly, but glassblowing sure sounds cool to us. Glass Axis will invite visitors to create an original paperweight in their hot shop, while learning the finer points of the trade.
Excess Science Trivia & Karaoke
Various dates
If you enjoy trivia and also know the relative atomic mass of magnesium, this may be the event for you. Excess Science trivia features Jeopardy-style trivia and karaoke you can find at multiple spots across the city.
May 4, free
Because no one is too old for ice cream, this free event–which will be held at Huber Park and is hosted by Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation– will teach visitors all about the science behind our favorite frozen treat. Did we mention tasting samples are involved?
Science is Brewing! Brewer & Scientist-led Brewery Tour
May 5, free
Learn all about Land-Grant, one of the city’s most lauded craft breweries, from both Land-Grant Director of Engineering Chris Helderman and a COSI scientist. The 45-minute tour will be packed with scientific demonstrations and industry knowledge.
