An iconic 24 year old store closed 3 years ago – it’s set to reopen this year in Upper Arlington
In December of 2020, a Lane Avenue staple for bargain hunters and bibliophiles announced they would be closing their store due to ongoing construction of a new development in the Upper Arlington neighborhood.
This store, Half Price Books, which has been a Columbus go-to spot for novels, music, games, collectibles, and even textbooks, has announced on their website that after three years though, they’re set to reopen by the end of 2023. The photo on their website also shows a rendering of the Arlington Gateway, a new development, in place where a photo of their building used to be.

While full details are still undisclosed, like the exact date of their reopening and exactly where, (Half Price Books would not comment on the matter), a message on the sign outside their Lane Ave. store dating back to December of 2020 reads that they’ll be reopening in Arlington Gateway.
Construction for Arlington Gateway began in the fall of 2021, and “is tentatively scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2023,” says the City of Upper Arlington’s website.
If you can’t wait until then to get a good bargain on a stack of books this fall, the other Half Price Books locations around Columbus, on Bethel Rd., Westerville, Lewis center, and Reynoldsburg, are still open!
