Columbus recognized in ‘Forbes’ Magazine for being a ‘hotspot for leisure & travel’
We know how to have fun here in Columbus, but also know how to get down to business, and none other than Forbes Magazine has recognized this.
According to the 2023 State of the Visitor Industry’s Mid-year Report released by Experience Columbus and The Greater Columbus Sports Commission, Columbus tourism has generated $6.6 billion in revenue, with 49.6 million people visiting the city, which has apparently supported 75,000 jobs.
So, what exactly makes Columbus a burgeoning hotspot? Well, according to Forbes and Experience Columbus, first and foremost, there’s the leisurely aspects, including the Scioto Mile and cool neighborhoods. Then, there’s the conventions Downtown that are continuously hosted here. “Business professionals from across the country and world come to Columbus each year,” says Forbes. The expansion of the Hilton Columbus Downtown, which is now the largest hotel in the state, has also helped attract large meetings and conventions.

We also have a popular sports scene, with three professional teams (the Columbus Crew, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Columbus Clippers), and of course our college team, the Buckeyes, bringing in millions of out-of-towners each month.
And last but not least, “Columbus is a business and innovation hub,” explains Forbes. In Columbus, you’ll find thriving mom & pop shops, but also global giants and tech startups. Forbes emphasized that there are 16 Fortune 1000 companies, and five Fortune 500 companies.
Is Columbus the new “Silicon Heartland?” With Intel investing $20 billion here and a second Google data center coming to the Capital City, we might just be.
