Columbus in the top 10 cities in the U.S. for economic growth in 2023 – see where we ranked

2023 data is officially in, and no surprise here – Columbus is continuing to come out on top for economic growth and housing markets.

Gusto, a national payroll corporation, tracked last year’s data and analyzed that economic growth was shifting from large, coastal cities like NY and LA, to smaller, metropolitan areas, such as Indianapolis and Columbus. Gusto attributed this economic growth to SMBs, otherwise known as Small-Midsized Businesses, which “are driving the economy to a historic degree,” Gusto’s website says.

For the first time ever on record, by September of last year, the smallest firms accounted for a larger share of job openings than larger companies. This growth could be due to remote work opportunities spreading across the country, as well as high costs of living pushing households out of large cities and into cities like Columbus instead.

Using data from Gusto’s 300,000+ SMBs, Gusto has ranked Columbus as the #7 city for job and economic growth.

According to their data, these are the top 10 cities for job growth this year:

  1. Virginia Beach
  2. Richmond
  3. Buffalo
  4. Indianapolis
  5. Providence
  6. San Antonio
  7. Columbus
  8. Philadelphia
  9. Pittsburgh
  10. Minneapolis St. Paul

With news that Columbus has been ranked as the #3 city for the hottest housing market, and now as the 7th top city for economic growth, we’re really making a name for ourselves – one that finally doesn’t have to do with football.
