Columbus roaster wins silver medal at world’s largest coffee roasting competition
We’re known for a lot of things in the Arch City: first, the silly nicknames we call ourselves (Cowtown, The Biggest Small Town in America, and yes, even Arch City), plus, our football, and now, even our coffee is making a name for itself. Watch out, Portland and Seattle.
A local micro-roaster, Royal Flamingo Coffee, is making strides all over the world.
Last August, Royal Flamingo Coffee took home gold at the largest coffee roasting competition in the world, called the Golden Bean Competition, beating hundreds of others around the globe with their close-to-perfect espresso beans. And last week, they took home the silver medal in best filtered coffee beans at the same competition, located in Melbourne, Australia.
So no matter if you’re a cappuccino person or prefer a simple black coffee, some of the best beans in the entire world are now at your fingertips.

The husband and wife duo behind the concept of Royal Flamingo, Bryan and Beth Brzozowski, have a mission to “make serious coffee for unserious people,” their website explains. Roasted right at I517 Hess St. here in Columbus, they focus on coffee that’s carefully sourced and great for daily drinking, but also dabble into micro-lots that showcase the new and interesting ways coffees are being processed.
