614feast names the best BBQ sandwiches in town
Barbecue is a labor of love, requiring hours of preparation, from rubbing the meat with house-made rubs and secret blends to smoking it for up to 16 hours, letting it rest, and then cutting it to order. Great smoked meat should stand on its own, but creating a flavor-packed sandwich with it is also fun and delicious.
Columbus has a ton of incredible BBQ spots, and here are five of my favorite feast-worthy BBQ sandwiches:
Hoggy’s BBQ and Catering (830 Bethel Rd.)
Pig Rib Sandwich: A quarter rack of ribs with the bones pulled out, bread and butter pickles, and topped with Columbus Original BBQ sauce on top of a garlic grilled Martin’s Potato Roll. Think of it as a smokier twist on the McRib—an elevated, mouth-watering version with high-quality ingredients.
Hank’s Texas BBQ (2941 N High St)

Hot & Heavy Sandwich: This sandwich is an exciting double dose of smoked pulled pork and smoked sausage, coleslaw, spicy mayo, fire Cheetos dust, and your choice of BBQ sauce. I go with the habanero peach. It’s served with house-cut fries and it’s a major feast.
Ray Ray’s Hog Pit (multiple)
Brisket Burnt Ends Sandwich: Brisket burnt ends, also known as “meat candy,” with roasted red peppers and onions, available every Thursday. It’s definitely worth marking on your calendar. Don’t be worried about the name— burnt ends aren’t burnt; they’re twice smoked and packed full of flavor.
Texas Steele BBQ (1060 King Ave)
Sliced Brisket Sandwich: Your choice of house-made sauces: sweet Texas Steele, sweet & spicy, local Texas, or Carolina twist sauce. Their brisket is juicy and tender, super beefy, and packed full of flavor. Feel free to go sauce free and enjoy the smoky goodness.
SmokeOut BBQ (1850 Winderly Ln, Pickerington, OH)
Carolina Pork Sandwich: Smoked pork topped with slaw and vinegar sauce. I personally recommend adding the smoky sriracha sauce for an extra kick. Their pork is juicy and tender, and even if you’re not in Pickerington, it’s definitely worth the trip.
