End of Era: City’s first ‘selfie museum’ closing its doors, only one remaining in Columbus

Several years ago, the selfie museum trend enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity throughout central Ohio. Before the end of the month, however, one only in Columbus will remain open.

According to an Instagram post, Viral Columbus announced it plans to close its doors for good at the end of August.

“Dear friends and selfie enthusiasts, as we approach our 3 year anniversary in September, it is with mixed emotions that we share the news that we will not be renewing our lease at your current location,” the post reads. “Unfortunately, we have no plans to open another selfie museum at this time.”

The Viral Columbus selfie museum is located at 1555 N. 4th St. It provided a variety of themed backdrops, props and lighting that guests could use to take their own selfies.

Owner Danielle White launched the concept’s first selfie museum, which was the city’s first at the time, in 2021. Viral Columbus opened another location in the Polaris area the following year, although this has since closed.

A national chain, Selfie WRLD, also opened a selfie museum in the Dublin area, although this space remained open for less than a year.

The city’s only remaining selfie museum is Selfie Palace Selfie Museum which is located at 2758 S. Hamilton Rd.
